'Only going to get worse': Talbot officials discuss rise in senior homelessness

Talbot County officials and senior care leaders met Tuesday to discuss creating a task force to address senior homelessness, a rapidly accelerating problem, experts say. The request for the task force comes from Talbot County Council member Lynn Mielke. Based on council feedback, a resolution to create the task force seems poised for approval at the council’s Aug. 12 meeting. Read more

The July 22 Council meeting covered a wide range of topics, including approval of the FY26 Program Open Space plan for playground and ballfield improvements, adoption of new zoning regulations for organic residuals (DAF), and authorization for MES to construct new landfill cells. Council introduced a $7 million bond bill for wastewater projects, addressed cannabis zoning legislation, and approved golf course equipment purchases. Read more
Recycle Bins at Perry Cabin Fields Removal Authorized

Due to ongoing concerns about the recycling bins at Perry Cabin Park, specifically, their incompatibility with nearby sport field activities and repeated misuse including household trash, Talbot County Council has authorized Maryland Environmental Services (MES) to remove the bins from the park’s lot.
